A few years ago I sat down in our conference room with my marketing manager, my IT advisor and a few of our top agents. My goal was to put together a list of tools that real estate agents need to succeed.

I will not go through that entire list with you today, but I will tell you that, ever since that meeting, our team has worked tirelessly to provide those tools to our agents. Let me tell you something, though. I could have the most extensive set of tools that a sculptor could ever imagine having, but I am certain that I would not be able to carve a bar of soap into a hockey puck. It’s more than tools:

Some Additional Comments about Competition from Gregg


Just recently I was asked by two prospective new agents in Naples how I expected to compete with the three dominant leaders in residential real estate.

I would like to take some time and answer that question, but perhaps not in the way the inquisitor had in mind.  The person asking the question was perhaps interested in my strategy that involves the competition, but the Market America Realty strategy does not have to do with the competition but with the customer and the agent.

I have been in business all my life and I have to tell you I never worried about my competition.  I work at being the best I can be and focus on the task, the customer, and the goal at hand.

My perception is that the large real estate agencies are in the agent business, not the real estate business, they need to grow corporately, and they do so by constantly recruiting agents. 

The business model of Market America Realty Group is based on corporately supporting prospect management and lead generation and retention and cultivating long term relations hips with homeowners, investors, developers, and real estate professionals and their advisors.

All real estate is local, all real estate is unique, and all real estate agents success come from within, not from without. It is my company’s mission to provide all the latest technological, motivational, and practical tools to enable an individual to succeed. 

Five years ago I sat in a room with a white board, my IT specialist, my head of client services, and some beer and pizza.  For hours we put on that white board all the challenges of the industry and tools we thought a real estate agent needed to meet them.  The result of that meeting is our company today. I will tell you in that meeting we never brought up the competition.  We talked about technology, agent needs, client needs, information sharing, internet marketing, social media, and simplifying processes. I did have one overriding theme: I wanted to automate, as much as possible, the task of follow up and lead generation and retention. 

Agents come to Market America Realty for a variety of reasons. The one most given is the amount of support provided to them, the client relationship manager, the leads, and the follow up. Others will tell you it is because of the inventory of listings. More will tell you that it’s because of the entrepreneurial spirit.

As an agent the marketing and tools we provide both you and your client are second to none. The brand may help you get in the door, and a brand like CB or Sotheby’s may attract more inquiries than the Market America brand, but I am confident that the marketing we do, the internet exposure we give, and the service we provide will serve the client better.  But at the end of the day it’s about the agent and his ability to communicate to the client his ability to produce.
